While there was probably no comedian more anti-establishment than George Carlin, there is no doubt that he was one of the funniest of our time. His observations were often irreverent but always sharp. My favorite bits of his are from the ’80s. Who could forget his classic review of how football was better than baseball, or why soccer is not a sport (because you can’t use your hands), or how things that are lost go to heaven (and when you get there you get it all back, except your virginity…because you were in such a big hurry to get rid of it in the first place).

George, you will be missed. And when you get to heaven, I hope your late wife Brenda is there to hand you back all the things you ever lost. Godspeed.

When I heard he dies, I said seven dirty words.
